Restoring a Mother’s Heart Frequently Asked Questions

Who is this retreat for?
This retreat is for moms of children who have died from congenital heart disease and other chronic illnesses. Each retreat is limited to 30 women. We will not spend the weekend focusing on the cause of our children’s death. However, women who have watched their children suffer through illness, made difficult medical decisions and have experienced the life changing realities of being mom, nurse, doctor, therapist and advocate, have so much in common.  After Ethan died Jessica really struggled with his suffering. She struggled with “why” that happened and how a child could be subject to so much pain. She needed to work though that and many other questions. She needed to ask the really hard and painful questions that came with watching him endure his heart disease. This weekend is focused on moms who have endured these experiences.

We recognize the need for this retreat for a broader community. In time we may open the retreat up to a larger audience. If you would like to be put on the mailing list for future retreats please email Jessica Lindberg: Jessica@ethanlindberg.com

Where is the retreat located?
The retreat is located at The Abbey Resort and Avani Spa in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Lake Geneva is located about 70 miles from Chicago O’Hare Airport and about 53 miles from Milwaukee’s General Mitchell Airport. We will organize group transportation from Chicago O'Hare only.

What airport do you recommend?
We are recommending Chicago O’Hare. There are more flights in and out of O’Hare and we can likely group all out of town travelers together to travel to and from the airport.

When should I fly in on Friday? Leave on Sunday?
The retreat will begin promptly at 1:00 PM EST on Friday and end at 1:30 PM EST on Sunday. It is approximately a 90 minute commute each way. We recommend you arrive by 10 AM on Friday and arrange your departing flight for 4:30 PM EST or later on Sunday.

Can I arrive on Thursday night?
Yes! We highly recommend this option. The Abbey has given us a rate of $89 + $13 resort fee for Thursday night stays before the retreat. If you'd like to make a reservation please call 262.275.6811. Mention you are coming for the retreat with the Ethan Lindberg Foundation.

Is transportation included?
Transportation to and from the Abbey is not included. We recommend you connect with other moms attending the retreat (we'll add you to a closed Facebook page in October) and you can arrange group transportation, if desired. Parking is FREE at the Abbey.

What does the $1000 fee include? Is any of this money going to the Ethan Lindberg Foundation?
We worked very hard to keep costs as low as possible. This retreat is an investment in yourself. For nearly 2 1/2 days you will be part of intensive healing exercises. We want you to come ready to do your work and to connect with yourself and your child. The Ethan Lindberg Foundation is hosting this retreat, using the infrastructure of the foundation, and spending additional dollars to support this event. In addition, we supply some scholarships to for qualified retreat attendees.

The cost of the retreat includes 2 nights at The Abbey, resort fees, service fees, parking if needed, all meals and snacks for Friday* afternoon, Saturday all day and Sunday till 1 PM (including lunch). We will serve wine with meals Friday and Saturday nights. Saturday night dinner and drinks will be at a restaurant within walking distance. The cost also includes bringing in 4 presenters from around the country as well as all materials, supplies and several sentimental gifts for the weekend. In addition, we offer yoga on Sunday morning for all who want to join in. We supply the mats.

Attendees will need to put down a credit card when checking into The Abbey for incidentals.

*Friday lunch is on your own.

Are there any more scholarships available?

Can I share a room to save costs?
